A new company has been formed to revive the Warlord: Saga of the Storm CCG, which has been dormant for the past 12 years. Kingswood Games, formed by Warlord CCG community leaders Woodrow Hood and Josh King, will launch a new expansion, Into the Accordlands, on Kickstarter in May. The Kickstarter launch (which will also have a retailer tier), planned for Q4 2024, will be followed by a trade release.
The Kickstarter will offer six ready-to-play starter decks, one for each faction, and booster boxes. Each booster pack will include 16 cards and 4 rarities: 10 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare or legendary, 1 foil or extended art, and 1 token, ad, or rules card. Booster boxes purchased through the Kickstarter will include box toppers.
The new expansion will preserve the original game format, with new artwork for classic cards and improved card frames. New lore, refined mechanics, and updates to streamline the experience will be added.
In Warlord: Saga of the Storm, two or more players command armies that battle to defeat their opponents’ Warlord. Actions are resolved using a D20 roll. Warlord employs a Rank & File system using card levels to determine where new cards enter play.
Warlord: Saga of the Storm was launched by Alderac Entertainment Group in 2001; Alderac released products through much of the 00s (see, for example, “’Warlord Campaign Edition’”). In 2008, Alderac ceased publishing the game (see “’Warlord CCG’ Ending”), and licensed it to Phoenix, which produced new releases for several years (see “’Warlord CCG’ Returns”). In 2021, for the 10th anniversary of the game’s launch, Alderac produced a direct sale Anniversary Pack (see “AEG Revisits ‘Warlord CCG’”).
