Fantasy Flight Games has announced the December release of Sands of Al-Kalim, an expansion for the Runebound board game.  Designed by Rob Vaughn, Runebound: Sands of Al-Kalim (MSRP $39.95) is set in a legendary sand-swept kingdom where players have to forge their own tales.  It differs from other Runebound adventures in that it does not include Encounter and Event cards that describe a set story; rather it is the players themselves that create the story, and the first player to have his (or her) tale immortalized in song and legend is the winner.

The Sands of Al-Kalim Expansion includes six new Hero figures, six Hero cards, and a new game board overlay that allows for a number of cool effects including sandstorms, the passage from day into night, and cities that appear and disappear.  Also included in the expansion are 56 new Challenges and 23 new Allies plus 25 Legendary Quest cards that become Legendary Rewards as each hero completes his (or her) own epic tale.
