Media Blasters has announced a December 11th release date for Voltron: Defender of the Universe Volume 5: Black Lion (MSRP $39.98).  The four-disk DVD set will contain episodes 60 through 74 of the 123-episode series that appeared on American TV in the 1980s.  An American company World Events Productions cobbled the Voltron animated series together by mixing two anime series produced by Toei and Bandai, GoLion and Dairugger XV.  World Events also toned the violence in the original anime series, since Voltron had to meet FCC children's programming standards.

Given the success of 1980s properties such as this summer's Transformers movie, it is no surprise that Media Blasters' Voltron sets have done well (see 'Voltron Blows Away Invader Zim'), and it is equally understandable why a number of other Reagan-era animated series such as G.I. Joe and Voltron itself are currently in development as live action features.
