Variety is reporting that Nick Park, creator of Wallace & Gromit, will go into production in January on a 30-minute Wallace & Gromit film, Trouble at' Mill, which is scheduled to air on the BBC on Christmas 2008.  In the new film the cheese-loving heroes open a bakery, and when Wallace becomes smitten with the comely Piella Bakewell, Gromit has to solve a murder mystery on his own.

Park, who spent nearly ten years making two feature films, Chicken Run and Curse of the Wererabbit, is glad to be returning to shorter films.  Park's earlier Wallace & Gromit shorts including such classics as The Wrong Trousers and A Close Shave were cult hits on DVD, a fate that undoubtedly awaits Trouble at' Mill (and which will likely afford independent retailers more opportunities than did The Curse of the Wererabbit, which won the animation Oscar in 2005, and was heavily promoted in the mass market on DVD).
