Hong Kong-based Imagi Studios has picked Timothy Harris to write the screenplay for its CGI Astro Boy feature. Harris, who has written Space Jam, Kindergarten Cop, Twins and Trading Places, replaces Robert Mark Kamen (The Fifth Element) who had originally been tapped for the writing assignment (see 'WB, Weinsteins Distributing Imagi Features').
Just last month Imagi changed directors on the project, replacing ex-Pixar animator Colin Brady with David Bowers (the director of Flushed Away). In spite of these key changes in creative personnel, Imagi insists that the new Astro Boy feature is still on track for a 2009 release.
