Hollywood Reporter reports that Joe Dante, the director of the cult scifi/horror film Gremlins, has signed a contract with Warner Brothers to direct an as-yet-unnamed big budget Looney Tunes film that will combine the popular Warner Brothers animated characters with real actors in a live-action world. Warner Brothers had some success teaming the Looney Tunes gang with Michael Jordan during the heyday of his Airness, but the new film will reportedly eschew the sports angle for an action adventure comedy.
John Recqua and Glenn Ficarra, who wrote the screenplay for Warner Brother's Cats and Dogs, have written the script for the new film. Plans now call for the film to go into production this summer for a Turkey Day release in 2003.
