Competing with mass market retailers on major DVD releases can be brutal, but with the market for DVDs exploding, so many films and TV series are being released in the DVD format that the big chains can't feature them all -- in fact they are likely to ignore many of these titles completely in order to provide more space for the mega-hits. Case in point--the August release of a raft of Doctor Who DVDs by the BBC. Ark in Space, Robots of Death, Remembrance of the Daleks, The Caves of Androzani, Spearhead from Space, and Tomb of the Cybermen will all appear in late summer along with a new version of The Five Doctors. All the Doctor Who material will be presented in the original 4/3 ratio and will include a number of extras such as pop-up production notes, trivia questions, commentaries, and a music only track. The Doctor Who DVDs will carry a suggested retail price of $24.95.
Also due out in August is the DVD edition of the fan favorite Time After Time, a great time travel Jack-the-Ripper adventure that includes commentaries from director Nicholas Meyer and actors Malcolm McDowell and David Warner. Time After Time has an srp of $19.95.
