According to the Hollywood Reporter Lucy Liu is about to make the leap from Charlie's Angels to Charlie Chan.  Liu will play the namesake granddaughter of the legendary Chinese-American detective created by Earl Derr Biggers and brought to the screen by Twentieth Century Fox during Hollywood's golden era.  Hong Kong helmer John Woo will produce the new 'hip' version of the classic detective series.

Many of the 'series' films from Hollywood's golden age have developed a coterie of fans, but few have attracted the kind of following that the Charlie Chan films have.  Posters, lobby cards, and stills from the original Fox Chan series now fetch a considerable premium.  It remains to be seen if a modern Charlie Chan film could inspire such devotion, but there is no doubt that Lucy Liu is far more attractive and compelling than Warner Oland and Sidney Toler, who played the detective in the original Fox Films.
