The Tim Burton exhibit currently at the Museum of Modern Art in New York isn’t just a fine art presentation of the work of one of the most popular brands in pop culture, it’s also an opportunity to expose lots of new customers to the product range associated with the pop icon. “This has been one of our most successful retailer relationships of all time,” Dark Horse Deluxe maven Dave Scroggy said of the company’s relationship with the MoMA museum store. “They have sold a phenomenal amount of product. The entire Dark Horse [Burton] line is available in the MoMA gift shop and they’re having a lot of trouble keeping the stuff in stock.”
The exhibit, which uses timed tickets for admission (like other big-time art exhibits) “has exceeded everyone’s expectations,” according to Scroggy. The exhibit includes the original maquettes on which Dark Horse figures were based
A satellite exhibit will travel to Japan later this year.
Dark Horse plans more large vinyls of the Burton characters later this year, pending approvals.
