Although the various reports linking Benicio Del Toro to Star Trek 2 were all careful to note that negotiations were ongoing (see “Del Toro in Star Trek 2”), the fact that the initial reports came out over a month ago, with shooting to begin early next year, led most to believe that his involvement was a done deal.  But that was not to be.  A dispute over financial issues led to a breakdown in the talks, according to Vulture, and Del Toro will not appear in Star Trek 2.  

Alice Eve was recently signed (see “Alice Eve in Star Trek 2”), and just yesterday the original Robocop, Peter Weller, was reported to have joined the cast (see “Peter Weller in Star Trek Sequel”).
