At Image Expo, bestselling author Brian K. Vaughan (Saga, Y The Last Man, Ex Machina) announced two new projects for Image Comics in 2015: Paper Girls and We Stand Guard.
Vaughan will partner with artist Cliff Chiang (Wonder Woman) for an ongoing series about four 12-year-old newspaper delivery girls who have an extraordinary experience one day that sends them on a supernatural mystery adventure.
Vaughan had a hit in both the comic store and book markets (including libraries, see "YALSA Picks the Top Ten Graphic Novels"), with a book for younger readers of both genders with Runaways (Marvel), launched in 2003 (see "Marvel 'Manga Style'"), but has been writing primarily for adults in recent years.
We Stand Guard is a mini-series penned by Vaughan with co-creator and artist Steve Skroce (Doc Frankenstein, X-Man). Set in the 22nd Century, the series follows a group of Canadian freedom fighters who attempt to hold back an invasion from the technologically superior United States. The project will launch in Summer.
