After a ten year break, Jen Van Meter’s Hopeless Savages will return in graphic novel form this August. What will be the fourth volume in the story, Hopeless Savages: Break, will be written by Van Meter, with art by Meredith McClaren (Hinges) and flashback sequence art by original series artist Christine Norrie. The 152-page trade paperback will be released on August 12.
Three previous volumes in the early 00s collected stories originally published as periodical comics, including Eisner-nominated issues; an omnibus collection was released in 2010. The comic series was nominated for an Eisner Award, and the first graphic novel made the YALSA-recommended list for librarians.
The story continues to follow the family of two punk rockers, with Zero now in college and trying to get out on tour with her band The Dusted Bunnies, while the rest of the family deals with babies, contracts, and drug addictions.
