Chris Hemsworth has joined the cast of the Paul Feig-directed Ghostbusters reboot, which will feature an all-female team, according to Variety. In a gender-flipped role, Hemsworth will play the receptionist, the role played by Annie Potts in the originals. Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones were previously cast (see “Melissa McCarthy to Head All-Female ‘Ghostbusters’ Cast”) as the leads.
The receptionist role has reportedly been beefed up to make it more suitable; Hemsworth has been playing primarily leading roles (e.g., Thor).
Feig is red hot these days, following up Bridesmaids and The Heat with Spy, which opened at #1 last weekend (see “’Spy’ Tops Anemic Frame”).
While this is the Ghostbusters reboot getting the most attention, there’s also another version, planned for male leads, in development (see “’Ghostbusters’ for the Boys”).
