World War Cthulhu: Cold War combines the paranoia and espionage of the classic spy thrillers of the Cold War with the eerie existential horror that defines the Cthulhu Mythos. Players take on the role of spies working for a variety of national intelligence agencies, while simultaneously working to combat the evils of the Mythos for the mysterious (and officially non-existent) “Section 46.”
The 224-page core book for the new setting describes the game world, the history of British spymaster “N” and his Section 46, and the main conflicts of the era. The book will be available in both standard hardcover and deluxe foil-embossed versions. MSRP is $39.99 for the standard hardcover.
Cubicle 7 plans several supporting supplements for the setting, including the Section 46 Operations Manual player’s guide, Our American Cousins setting supplement, Yesterday’s Men campaign book, and Covert Actions scenario supplement. These supplements will have MSRP between $24.99 and $34.99, depending on the final length of each book, which will be determined by the level of support the Kickstarter campaign receives.
Earlier this year, Cubicle 7 also released an extensive Call of Cthulhu boxed set covering Mythos fighters in England, called Cthulhu Britannica London (see “‘Cthulhu Britannica London Boxed Set’”).
The funding campaign has already tripled its funding goal with 21 days remaining. Cubicle 7’s Creative Director Jon Hodgson described the retailer backer level as “a nominal fee which lets retailers get involved in the campaign without tying up too much cash, and giving them the first chance to order. The pledge amount will be counted as credit towards their order.”
