Johnny Knoxville is working with NBC to bring an adaptation of Hawaiian Dick from Image Comics to the small screen.

The story follows a mainland cop named Byrd who becomes embroiled in the dark side of paradise, mixing “procedural, humor and supernatural elements,” according to The Hollywood Reporter. The current version of the project would be a one-hour comedy action series, with Universal Television producing.

This is not the first time Johnny Knoxville has been in the mix working on bringing Hawaiian Dick to live-action. The Jackass star was previously set in the starring role of a movie version of the comic (see "'Hawaiian Dick' Picked Up For Movie"), but it took several years before a director was selected (see "'Hawaiian Dick' Gets Director"), and the New Line Cinema project was eventually shelved.

This go around, the project has a lot of weight behind it. Knoxville will be executive producing, along with David Janollari (Six Feet Under), Eric Gitter (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), and Michael Rotenberg (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia). The script is being penned by GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra writers Paul Lovett and David Elliott. There is no word if Knoxville will still be slotted to play the main character.

The original comic first launched in 2002; the fourth installment of the series will release in 2016.
