Here we round-up recent geek TV news from the past week.
Supergirl. CBS has ordered seven more episodes for the freshman season of Supergirl, bringing the total to 20 episodes. The show was the fall’s most-watched series premiere (see “'Supergirl' Premiere Nets 16 Million Viewers”).
iZombie. The CW DC Comics series iZombie had already been picked up for a second season, but last week the network announced it had upped the episode order by six, bringing the total to 19, according to Variety. The Tuesday night show was averaging a 0.82 rating in adults 18-49, and netting 1.9 million total viewers in the “live plus-3” estimates.
Luke Cage. Marvel’s Luke Cage has cast Emmy and Golden Globe nominee Sonia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Moon over Parador, Brothers & Sisters) as Soledad Temple, the mother of Claire “Night Nurse” Temple (played by Rosario Dawson). Most of the main cast for the show has already been announced (see “Core 'Luke Cage' Cast Set”).
Sesame Street. HBO announced the premiere date for the new season of Sesame Street as January 16. The now half-hour show will boast new sets and a new opening. The first season will consist of 35 episodes. The network will also air the most recent four season of the show as part of its KIDS block, and the seasons will be available on HBO Go and HBO NOW. The five-year agreement with Sesame Workshop was announced this summer (see “Sesame Street Goes to HBO”), and the episodes will be made available to PBS viewers after a nine-month exclusivity window.
