Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons and Futurama, is in talks with Netflix for an animated series, according to Variety. The initial order under consideration is for two seasons at ten episodes each.
A deal with Groening would be a major new coup for Netflix. Groening is responsible for one of the longest-running entertainment shows on television; The Simpsons was recently renewed for its 28th season and was sold into syndication in a deal worth nearly a billion dollars (see "Mega-Deal for 'The Simpsons'"). Futurama ran fifteen years on Fox and Comedy Central, ending in 2013 (see "'Futurama' Canceled").
