Cool Mini or Not will release Rum & Bones: Second Tide, a new version of its fantasy pirate board game, which will act as a stand alone game or an expansion.  Release is scheduled for early 2017.

Like the original Rum & Bones, the Second Tide is a game of pirate crews fighting desperate boarding actions for control of the fabled treasure of Davy Jones.  Players use miniatures to represent their crew and officers over the game board showing the competing pirate ships.  Second Tide introduces two new pirate crews to the game system:  the monstrous Deep Lords and the gold-hungry crew of the Marea de la Muerte, and can be played on its own or combined with the original game.

Deep Lords
Rum & Bones: Second Tide features a revised action system based around “alternating activations,” where players alternate moving one hero at a time.  A new leveling system allows heroes to develop new abilities over the course of the game, customizing player options and strategies.  The new Tide Deck, meanwhile, allows players to activate special faction-specific abilities, but risk attracting dangerous sea monsters to attack their ship.

Marea de la Muerte
The new game will include 70 unpainted plastic miniatures, 20 mini base rings, 3 ship boards, 60 Tide cards, 12 hero and sea monsters dashboards, 34 skill cards, 8 dice, and 120 tokens.  MSRP has not yet been announced.

CMON is funding the production through a Kickstarter campaign, with backer fulfillment planned for January, which reached its initial funding goal in less than 10 minutes after the campaign began.  With 16 days remaining, the campaign has already broken the $300,000 mark, with over 3,000 backers.

CMON released the first version of Rum & Bones in 2015, heavily supporting it with expansions and add-ons (see “A Pirate’s Chest of ‘Rum & Bones’ Releases”).
