Days of Wonder has announced a new game in its long-running line of railroad games: Ticket to Ride: Rails & Sails, scheduled to premier at Gen Con and release in September.
Like other games in the line, Rails & Sails players collect sets of cards to claim routes on the game board, connecting cities to earn points and competing to complete ticket routes to score bonuses. In this new game, players can still build train routes as before, but now they can use Ship cards to claim routes over seas and lakes. Other new features include Double Ship cards to cross water more quickly and Tour Tickets that require linking multiple cities for bigger bonuses.
Ticket to Ride: Rails & Sails features a larger game board than any other title in the line, depicting the entire world on one side and the Great Lakes region on the other. Also included are 165 plastic trains, 250 plastic ships, 15 harbors, 5 scoring markers, and 260 cards. The game is designed for 2 to 5 players, ages 10 and up, and plays in about two hours. MSRP is $80.00.Rails & Sails is a stand-alone game, and does not require any of the other Ticket to Ride games to play.
Ticket to Ride continues to be a reliable bestseller for Days of Wonder, ranking second in ICv2’s Top 10 list for Fall 2015 (see “Top 10 Hobby Channel Board Games-Fall 2015”).
