There have been numerous casting announcements for upcoming geek films in the past few weeks and we round them up here.

Multiple roles have been announced for Sony and Marvel Studio’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, including Bokeem Woodbine (Fargo) and Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) as villains, according to THR. Also recently added to the cast are Donald Glover (Community) according to THR, Abraham Attah (Beasts of No Nation) according to Deadline, Michael Mando (Better Call Saul) according to THR, Hannibal Buress (Neighbors) according to Variety, and Martin Starr (Silicon Valley) according to Deadline. The film begins shooting this week in Atlanta. The film is due in theaters on July 7, 2017 (see “Best in Shows--Q3 2017”).

Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy, Da Vinci’s Demons) announced on Twitter that she will be playing a role in the upcoming Michael Bay blockbuster Transformers: The Last Knight. Details about her role were not shared. The film is due in theaters June 23, 2017 (see “Best in Shows--Q2 2017”).

Noomi Rapace will be returning to reprise her role of Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott’s sequel Alien: Covenant, Deadline is reporting. After initial reports saying she would not be in the film, sources say Rapace is on the set in Australia with plans to shoot for several weeks. The film will be released on August 4, 2017 (see “Best in Shows--Q3 2017”).

The animated My Little Pony: The Movie added some more star power to its list of voice actors. Liev Schreiber (Ray Donovan, X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Taye Diggs (Chicago, Private Practice) will both lend their voices to new characters in the Hasbro and Lionsgate film, EW is reporting. Emily Blunt, Kristin Chenoweth, Uzo Aduba, and Michael Pena are also joining the TV show's “Mane 6” voice actors for the feature film. The film releases in theaters on October 6, 2017 (see “Best in Shows--Q4 2017”).

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston was announced in the role of the wise galactic sage Zordon for the Power Rangers movie. On the original TV show, Zordon of Eltar was the creator of the Power Rangers who also served as a guide to the teen heroes. The film is due in theaters on March 24, 2017 (see “Best in Shows--Q1 2017”).
