Originally published as Dragon Delta in 2000, River Dragons is a simultaneous action selection game in which players try to build networks of bridges across a broad Asian river. The game was a critical success, earning a “Recommended” rating from the Spiel des Jahres committee in 2001. Asmodee revisited the game as River Dragons, bringing it to the U.S. in 2013 (see “New ‘Serenissima’ and ‘River Dragons’”).
Now the torch has passed to Surfin Meeple, which will begin distributing Matagot’s version of the game in the U.S. starting in late November. Retailers who order full cases of the game (six games per case) will have the opportunity to also purchase one copy of Surfin Meeple’s River Dragons Giant, originally released by Matagot last year. This over-sized version of the game uses a fabric floor mat version of the game board, and 60 wooden pieces including 6 large pawns, bridge pieces, and river stones. It comes packaged in a special wooden case.
