Milton Gross, H.G. Peter, Antonio Prohias and Dori Seda will be automatically inducted into the Will Eisner Comic Awards Hall of Fame in 2017. The judges nominated 17 other individuals for the Hall, four of whom will be chosen based on the votes of industry professionals. The winners will be announced at San Diego Comic-Con during an awards ceremony on July 21 at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel.
The nominees are Peter Bagge, Howard Cruse, Steve Englehart, Justin Green, Roberta Gregory, Bill Griffith, Gilbert and Jaime Hernandez, Francoise Mouly, Jackie Ormes, George Pérez, P. Craig Russell, Posy Simmonds, Walt Simonson, Jim Starlin, Rumiko Takahashi, and Garry Trudeau.
Industry professionals may vote online through March 10.
In past years, judges have elected two automatic inductees for the Hall of Fame (see "Eisner Awards Nominate 14 for Hall of Fame"), but an exception was made this year in conjunction with the Will Eisner centennial celebration (Eisner would have been 100 on March 6.)
