The Penguin Random House Creative Writing Competition for NYC Public High School Seniors is an annual contest (see “Penguin Random House Offers Graphic Novel Scholarship Program”) that awards scholarships in four categories: personal essays / memoir, poetry / spoken word, fiction / drama, and graphic novels. In each category, students could win the following scholarships:
- First Place: $10,000.00
- Second Place: $5,000.00
- Third Place: $2,500.00
- Best of Borough (one award each for Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island): $1,000.00
Graphic novel work can be by a single creator or a team of two or more creators. There is no minimum length for entries in the graphic novel category.
