Josh Brolin (pictured in Labor Day, above) has been cast in the role of Cable in 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool 2, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Brolin reportedly beat out Michael Shannon (Midnight Special) and David Harbour (Stranger Things) for the role. He joins returning star Ryan Reynolds and Zazie Beetz (Atlanta), who has been cast as Domino. Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Stefan Kapcic (Colossus), and Karan Soni (Dopinder the taxi driver) will also reprise their roles (see “Ryan Reynolds Shares 'Deadpool' Oscar Consideration Video”). David Leitch (John Wick) is directing the film, which doesn’t yet have a release date.

Cable was co-created by Rob Liefeld and Louise Simonson. A hulking telepath and telekinetic and son of Scott Summers and Jean Grey’s clone in the comics, the character has served as a foil for Deadpool.

The deal is reported to be for four films. One of those is likely the X-Force movie that is being scripted by Joe Carnahan (see “'X-Men 7,' 'X-Force'”).

Brolin’s no stranger to comic book movies. He previously portrayed Jonah Hex (see “Josh Brolin in Talks for 'Jonah Hex'”) and Dwight in Sin City (see “Josh Brolin in 'Sin City'”). Brolin also appears in the Marvel Cinematic Universe; he previously voiced Thanos in Avengers: Age of Ultron and Guardians of the Galaxy (see “Thanos Cast”), and he’s playing the character in Avengers: Infinity War, which hits theaters May 4, 2018 (see “Best in Shows--Q2 2018”).

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld returns to drawing his signature creation in Deadpool: Bad Blood, an all-new OGN from writers written by Chris Sims and Chad Bowers (see “First Deadpool OGN”). The book hits shelves on May 17.
