Sales at Steve Jackson Games declined for a second straight year, producing a loss for the first year in over a decade, the company reported in its “Report to the Stakeholders.”  Company sales were just over $6 million in 2016, down from $6.6 million in 2015 (see “Sales Down in 2015 at Steve Jackson”), and $8.5 million in 2014.  The problems were due to late products, including Munchkin Collectible Card Game (see “’Munchkin CCG’”), Car Wars Sixth Edition, the 2012 Ogre Kickstarter, and Ogre Miniatures Set One.  Dungeon Fantasy, which was to go to the printer before the end of 2016, has also been delayed.

The management team was able to keep cash flow stable and avoid potential cash crunches, according to the report, despite the losses.

Among wins the company cited Munchkin Guest Artists Editions, the Walgreens exclusive Munchkin Grimm Tidings (see “’Munchkin Grimm Tidings’”), Simon’s Cat (which sold over 40,000 copies in its first six months of life), and the company’s other new games:  Ogre:  Objective 218, I Hate Zombies, Bill & Ted’s Excellent Boardgame, and Batman:  The Animated Series Dice Game

A few other things didn’t go as planned.  Discworld and Mars Attacks, hardcovers for GURPs, didn’t sell well, the company said, leading it to reconsider whether to publish any more printed GURPs releases until after Dungeon Fantasy is released.

The company set two key priorities for 2017:  Complete the Dungeon Fantasy, Ogre Miniatures Set 1, and Munchkin Shakespeare Kickstarter fulfillment; and put the Munchkin CCG to bed before the end of the year (which means it would ship in 2018 (cards were on display at GAMA Trade Show, see “GAMA Trade Show 2017 in Pictures”).
