Wizards of the Coast has revealed its plans for Magic:  The Gathering in the coming months, with a new main set called Ixalan, a retrospective into the game’s past with Iconic Masters, and the tribal-themed Commander 2017.

This autumn, a new expansion block begins with the release of the Ixalan expansion, which will release on September 29, the same weekend as the Team Limited Grand Prix event scheduled in Providence.  A large expansion, Ixalan will be available in a variety of formats:

Ixalan Planeswalker Decks are designed with newer players, and offers a pre-constructed 60-card deck that includes a premium foil Planesalker card, a pair of Ixalan booster packs, a strategy insert, and a learn-to-play guide.  MSRP is $14.99.  There will be two varieties of Ixalan Planeswalker Decks.  They will also be available in a six-deck display, which includes three copies of each deck variety.

The Ixalan Deck Builder’s Toolkit is intended for intermediate players looking to customize their Ixalan deck.  This set includes 125 semi-randomized cards, 100 basic land cards, four 15-card booster packs from recently released Magic sets, a Deck Builder’s Guide, and a rules reference, all packaged in a full-art card storage box.  MSRP is $19.99.

Ixalan booster packs will come with 15 randomized cards, available in 36-booster pack display boxes.  MSRP is $3.99 per pack.

An Ixalan Bundle will offer players a quick way to get into the new set.  It comes with 10 Ixalan booster packs, 80 basic land cards, a player’s guide and a learn to play guide, a card storage box, two deck boxes, and a “spindown” life counter.  MSRP is $42.99.

For approved locations that host pre-release events, Wizards will be offering the Ixalan Prerelease Packs.  Intended to showcase the new expansion, each pack comes with 6 Ixalan boosters, a random date-stamped promo card version of a rare or mythic card from the set, and a spindown life counter.  MSRP is $25.99.

To celebrate the game’s 25th Anniversary, Wizards will release the Iconic Masters set, which includes cards from the across the history of Magic, many with all-new artwork.  Wizards is keeping the contents of the set secret until it premiers at HasCon the weekend of September 8-10 (see “Hasbro to Host its Own Con”), though the company did tease that it would include angels, sphinxes, demons, dragons, and hydras.

Each 15-card Iconic Masters booster pack will include one premium card.  MSRP is $9.99 per booster, which will be packed in 24-pack boxes.  Wizards is expecting high demand for this limited item, and will allocate the distribution to stores based on their WPN level.  This set will release into the trade on November 17.

Also announced was this year’s version of the social-play Commander format decks.  Commander (2017 Edition) will release on August 25, and includes four different ready-to-play 100-card decks.  The decks will be based on Magic’s tribes, rather than themed by color as they have been in past years.  The four decks will feature 56 new Magic cards, suitable for use in both Legacy and Vintage format events.  MSRP is $34.99.

Earlier this month, Wizards revealed the new Archenemy set planned for June (see “Wizards Reveals ‘Nicol Bolas’ Details”).
