Twentieth Century Fox has cast Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy to star in the upcoming X-Men spinoff New Mutants, The Hollywood Reporter is reporting.
The announcement confirms a tweet earlier this year from New Mutants director Josh Boone, which stated Williams (fan favorite Arya Stark on Game of Thrones) had been cast as Wolfsbane (see "'New Mutants,' 'Han Solo,' 'World War Z 2'"). Taylor-Joy (The Witch, Split) will play Russian teen Magik, who practices sorcery and can teleport with special discs. She is also hister of X-Man Colossus.
The script was written by Boone and writing partner Knate Gwaltney. Simon Kinberg and Karen Rosenfelt will produce. The project is expected to start in early July.
New Mutants will release in theaters on April 13, 2018 (see "'Avatar,' 'X-Men' Fox Movie Calendar Shifts").
