The immensely popular DC Super Hero Girls franchise is getting a new action-comedy animated series from Warner Bros. Animation.

The series will air on Cartoon Network in 2018, building on the popularity of the line’s direct-to-video animated features and web series. Lauren Faust, who previously developed the fan favorite My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, will oversee the development of new character designs and storytelling on the series. Sam Register (Teen Titans Go!, Justice League Action) will executive produce.

The series will center on not-so-typical teenagers Diana, Kara, and Barbara (aka Wonder Woman, Supergirl, and Batgirl) and their pals Bumblebee, Zatanna, and Green Lantern Jessica Cruz as they take on school-aged supervillains and the travails of teenage friendships.

Since launching in 2015, DC Super Hero Girls has become a billion-dollar franchise. In addition to the animate material released on video and online, the franchise includes games, top-selling OGNs (see “'Super Hero Girls' Writer Takes Over 'Wonder Woman'”), and award-winning action figures (see "DC Super Hero Girls Go Intergalactic").
