Dark Horse Comics will release a new art collection from San Francisco-based artist Eric Joyner, the painter behind Robots and Donuts, on February 21, 2018.
Robotic Existentialism: The Art of Eric Joyner includes the artist’s newest pieces, continuing the themes of pairing vintage toy robots and everyday foods, and presenting them in whimsical and outlandish settings. The book will include well-known pieces The Horseshoe Bend, Daybreak, and Movers and Shakers. The 152-page hardcover has an MSRP of $29.99.
Joyner’s first art book, Robots and Donuts, was released by Dark Horse in 2008. His work has appeared on the sitcom The Big Bang Theory, was used as an album cover for Ben Folds Five’s The Sound of the Life of the Mind album, and is currently being shown in his seventh solo exhibition at the Corey Helford Gallery in Los Angeles.
ICv2 happened to visit that exhibition last week. The Corey Helford Gallery is a 12,000 square-foot private gallery in downtown Los Angeles, where Joyner’s exhibition, "Tarsus Bondon Dot," was the Gallery 1 show. There were 26 pieces, ranging in price from $3,800 to $20,500. We took a few pictures of the gallery and the art, which we share in the gallery below (we don’t know whether these pieces will appear in the book).
