Launched in 2004 in honor of the 60th Anniversary of D-Day (see “Memoir 44 Tied to D-Day 60th Anniversary”), Borg’s Memoir ’44 offers an easy to learn and fast playing tactical World War II experience. Over the years, it has spawned numerous expansions featuring different battlefields and combatants from the entirety of that global conflict.
This updated version of the game will feature newly designed miniatures that more faithfully recreate historical units and equipment, along with new plastic trays and army boxes to help players sort and organize their pieces. The scenarios included in the core set has been expanded to 20, covering fighting on Omaha Beach, Pegasus Bridge, Operation Cobra, and the Ardennes.Memoir ’44 will include a game board with a beach landing battlefield on one side and open countryside on the other, 144 plastic miniatures, 36 obstacles, 44 double-sided terrain tiles, 88 cards, 8 dice, 6 activation tokens, 2 cardholders, and a scenario book. The game is intended for two to four players, ages eight and up, and most scenarios take about 45 minutes to play. MSRP is $69.99.Days of Wonder is also releasing Star Wars: The Battle of Hoth, built on the same game engine as Memoir ’44, later this month (see “Relive the ‘Battle of Hoth’ from ‘Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’”).
