Fans of Wyrd Miniatures tabletop role playing game Through the Breach won’t have to wait much longer for the upcoming second edition, with the release of the Core Rules book announced for this July.

Originally released in 2014 (see “‘Malifaux’ RPG”), Through the Breach sends characters known as “Fated” into the bizarre and dark world of Wyrd’s Malifaux miniatures game.  Somewhat unusual among role playing games, Through the Breach discards dice to resolve the action, instead using a deck of cards called the Fate Deck.

Feedback from the game’s fan base has lead the company to produce a new edition, which will be presented in a single 416-page hardcover book called Through the Breach:  Core Rules.  This book combines the information in the earlier edition’s Fated Almanac and Fatemaster’s Almanac, and includes all of the rules and background material needed to play.

The core game mechanics have not been changed in the new edition, instead Wyrd is using the opportunity to clean up inconsistencies and unclear game rules.  Since the game system remains the same, all previously released sourcebooks and adventures from the first edition will be fully compatible with the new version, and future releases will still be useable with the first edition game as well.

The game’s character types, called “Pursuits” have been revamped, and new tools for Fatemaster characters have been added to make them more challenging for Fated to confront.  The game’s background material has also been expanded, with more enemies for players to face and for the first time ever a comprehensive history of the world of Malifaux.  An introductory adventure is also included to help players get into the action quickly.

Through the Breach:  Core Rules will release this July with a MSRP of $60.00.
