The recently-revealed Alex Ross variant cover for Secret Empire #10 features a portion of the piece Ross painted for Generations (see “Marvel's 'Generations' Revealed”), teasing a link between the two series.

Solicitations and marketing material thus far had not indicated how Secret Empire and Generations would connect. Much of Secret Empire’s plot has hinged on Kobik, the Cosmic Cube, and because Generations is set to bring together both classic and contemporary iterations of various popular Marvel superheroes (some of whom, it should be noted, are dead) (see “Marvel Reveals Six Artists and New Cover for 'Generations'”), some had theorized the Cosmic Cube would make an appearance in Generations.

Regardless, Ross’s variant for Secret Empire #10 doesn’t reveal much about the connection. The cover reveal also obscures the shield in the title, which has been a Cap shield transitioning into a Hydra shield over the course of the series. The variant cover also asks, “What is the Vanishing Point?” but any conclusions about Vanishing Point are conjecture at this, ahem, point. (One thing is certain: Vanishing Point shouldn’t be confused with DC’s out-of-space-and-time home base for Rip Hunter and the Linear Men.)

The tenth and final part of the once-9-issue Secret Empire crossover will be in stores on August 30 (see “Marvel Adds Tenth Issue to 'Secret Empire'”).
