Building on earlier games in the series, Whitehall Mystery features the same asymmetrical challenge for up to three investigators trying to deduce the hidden movements of the killer. This time Jack is trying to secretly place the severed parts of his latest victim in four locations around the city while evading the net of the police.
Using movement cards to represent different ways of getting about the city, including the all-new boat cards, the player representing Jack plots his moves. Then the investigators, working together, move their pieces around the city looking for clues or making arrests when they think they have located the murderer.
In addition to the new boat cards, Whitehall Mystery adds a number of new features to the game series. Three new investigators lend their talents, each with a unique ability that can be used once per game. One has even brought along a trained tracking dog to aid the search. Jack also has new skills that he can bring to play, using the newspapers to distract the law or using his stealth in new ways.
