An R2-D2 unit that was featured in several Star Wars films sold at auction for $2.75 million.
The R2 unit was assembled from parts used during the filming of the original Star Wars trilogy as well as Episodes I and II. The final bid exceeded the auction house’s initial high estimate of $2 million. Profiles in History hosted the auction, which featured several pieces of Star Wars memorabilia, including Luke Skywalker’s lightsaber, Darth Vader’s helmet, concept art, models, and more. (According to Profiles in History’s Facebook page, the lightsaber only brought in a “paltry” $390,000.)
No details on the purchaser were made available.
