The often-unusual animated characters from Nickelodeon’s 1990s era will appear in a line of games from IDW Games, starting with Nickelodeon Splat Attack, which will release next spring.
Capturing the spirit of ‘90s nostalgia, the deal between Nickelodeon and IDW will include a wide variety of popular animated characters that appeared in animated shows on the channel, including Rugrats, Invader Zim, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Wild Thornberrys, Hey Arnold!, CatDog, The Angry Beavers, Rocket Power, Aaahh!!! Real Monsters, The Ren & Stimpy Show, and Rocko’s Modern Life. The characters will appear in a series of games intended for the hobby and specialty channels, where they continue to enjoy a following.
The first game on the list will be Nickelodeon Splat Attack, which was designed by Michael Gray (Fortress America, Dungeon!) and Daryl Andrews (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Showdown, Outpost: Siberia). Set in a food court, the game depicts a food fight between teams of cartoon characters. Control of key areas in the food court will ultimately decide which player is named “King of the Court.” The game will include an undisclosed number of plastic miniatures representing the cartoon characters.
IDW Games will preview Nickelodeon Splat Attack at next month’s Gen Con game convention and at San Diego Comic Con.
IDW has been producing a growing line of games based on licensed IPs, including animated series (see "IDW to Produce 'Dragon Ball Z' Games" and "'The Legend of Korra' Continues in New Board Game"), TV programs (see "Crack the Genetic Code in 'Orphan Black: Clone Club'"), and films (see "Film Classic 'Planet of the Apes' Comes to Tabletop").
Starting with 'Nickelodeon Splat Attack!'
