Gen Con has sold all available badges for this week’s event, show organizers announced this week.  That means attendance will easily top the roughly 61,000 unique attendees the last two years (see "Gen Con Attendance Flat vs. Last Year").

Outgoing CEO Adrian Swartout (see "Gen Con Gets New President") marked the milestone. “In this milestone year, we have seen gamers from around the world decide to make Gen Con their summer destination, and we’re anticipating our best show yet,” she said of the sell-out.

More of Gen Con will be held at the adjoining Lucas Oil Stadium, including an homage to the first Gen Con, held in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (see "Gen Con Plans Historic Tribute to First Convention").  The use of the space at the stadium brings the total space for the show to 750,000 square feet, the most space ever booked for an Indianapolis convention, according to Indianapolis Business Journal.  Economic impact on the city is expected to be $75 to $80 million.

Even the airport is getting a Gen Con makeover, as it’s setting up three dedicated gaming spaces for departing Gen Con attendees on August 20 and 21.
