Geneon (nee Pioneer) has announced that it will be releasing Captain Herlock: The Legend Returns Volume 1 on DVD in February. The series features an all-star creative team, including Taro Rin (Rintaro), who directed the feature film Metropolis as well as the original Captain Harlock series (the U.S. spelling is being changed in this incarnation); Leiji Matsumoto, who did the original story for this series as well as for Galaxy Express 999, Star Blazer, and Space Battleship Yamato; Sadayuki Murai, who also did the script for Perfect Blue and Millennium Actress; and animation studio Madhouse. The disc will feature four episodes. The highly anticipated series was originally scheduled to release in Japan in mid-2002 (see 'New Captain Harlock Series Delayed').
