An evil computer intelligence is the villain in Victory Point Games’ new deck builder game Renegade, scheduled to release in Q1 2018.

In Renegade, the players are heroic hackers trying to break free from the “Super-Massive Computer” called Mother, set up by the government to control the people of Sapporo.  Each player has a deck of cards representing the software and tools they can use to infiltrate the computer system and combat its digital minions.  Using a deck building mechanic, players can improve their deck by exchanging basic cards for more powerful options as the game goes on.  If the players can overcome Mother’s defenses before the board is overrun, they win the game.

Renegade can be played solo, or as a cooperative game with up to five players.  Each player takes on the role of one of five different characters, each with their own advantage, while a variety of Super-Massive Computers create different challenges for every game.

The game comes with 125 cards, 5 Renegade profile sheets, 85 tiles, 10 tokens, 5 stand-up character pawns, and 7 custom dice.  Renegade is intended for 1 to 5 players, ages 13 and up, and takes about an hour and a half to play.  MSRP is $45.00.

Victory Point funded the production of Renegade through a Kickstarter campaign that attracted $90,116 in pledged support from 1,963 backers (an average of $45.91 per backer).

Earlier this year Victory Point released a new edition of Nemo’s War, another game intended for solo or cooperative play (see “Victory Point Launches ‘Nemo’s War’”).
