Independent U.K. publisher Hall or Nothing Productions will produce a new printing of its surprise hit Gloom of Kilforth:  A Fantasy Quest Game along with two new expansion sets in the second quarter of 2018.

Gloom of Kilforth:  A Fantasy Quest Game quickly sold out after its initial release this summer, following a modestly successful Kickstarter funding campaign.  The game is a fantasy adventure board card game that can be played solo, cooperatively, or competitively.

The game is set in the fantasy land of Kilforth, which is under threat from a deadly “gloom” that is descending upon the world.  The players, as heroes from the metropolis known as the Sprawl, must prove their worth, build up their power, and defeat the primordial evil that threatens the land.

Gloom of Kilforth features elements common to role playing games, using the game cards to depict the various adventures that the characters undertake, the individuals they encounter, and the enemies they must overcome.  It was created by Tristan Hall, founder of Hall or Nothing Productions.

The base game includes 256 lavishly illustrated cards, 140 wooden cubes, 60 tokens, 4 stand-up cardboard heroes, 1 wooden player marker, and 4 dice.  It supports play by 1 to 4 players, and is intended for ages 12 and up.  Games take about an hour per player.  The game has an MSRP of £57 (about $75.00).  The base game will be available again early next year, and will be available in English, French, and German.

See the gallery below for images of some of the cards in the game.

Along with the reprint of the base game, Hall or Nothing plans to produce two expansion sets:

The Encounters Pack adds new encounter and reward cards to the game, allowing for more variety of adventures.

The Pimp My Gloom accessory pack adds a velvet bag, 12 additional dice, 16 stand-up heroes, 4 stand-up “Ancients,” and a set of tarot-sized Location cards to replace the basic locations in the game, as well as player aid cards.

To fund the reprint and the new expansions, Hall or Nothing is running another Kickstarter campaign which has already enjoyed more success than the campaign for the original print run.  With 26 days remaining, it has attracted $134,916 from 1,717 backers (an average of $78.58 per backer).
