There has been news released about several geek film projects in the last few days, and we round it up here.

The official plot synopsis for Solo: A Star Wars Story was released today:

Board the Millennium Falcon and journey to a galaxy far, far away in Solo: A Star Wars Story, an all-new adventure with the most beloved scoundrel in the galaxy.  Through a series of daring escapades deep within a dark and dangerous criminal underworld, Han Solo meets his mighty future copilot Chewbacca and encounters the notorious gambler Lando Calrissian, in a journey that will set the course of one of the Star Wars saga’s most unlikely heroes.

The film releases in theaters on May 25 (see "Best in Shows--Q2 2018").

Marvel Studios has shared a new image for Ant-Man and the Wasp which shows Hope van Dyne / Wasp (Evangeline Lilly) and Scott Lang/Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) in their full superhero suits.  Lilly tweeted a picture of her suit (sans helmet) in September (see "'X-Force,' 'Thor: Ragnarok,' 'Ant-Man and The Wasp,' More").  The film opens on July 6 (see "Best in Shows--Q3 2018").

The much-requested Black Widow standalone film has moved forward with the announcement of Jac Schaeffer as scriptwriter, Variety is reporting.  The film, which will star Scarlett Johansson, is still in development, and has not been greenlit. However, Marvel Studios naming a writer is promising. Schaeffer wrote and directed the sci-fi romantic comedy TiMER, and her Black List script The Shower caught the attention of Anne Hathaway, who attached herself to star in it.

VIZ Media and Toei Animation Inc. announced the acquisition of the Mazinger Z: Infinity movie. Mazinger Z is a super robot manga series by Go Nagai first published in 1972.  The film, produced by Toei Animation, is set 10 years after the Mazinger Z TV series.  VIZ Media has secured theatrical, broadcast, digital streaming, EST and home video rights for the U.S. and Canada.  VIZ has partnered with Fathom Events to show the subtitled film in theaters on Sunday, February 11 and Monday, February 12.  The trailer is viewable below.
