Superman is getting a costume change for the 1000th issue of Action Comics -- the Man of Steel will be donning his signature red trunks once again. The issue, which is in stores on April 18, will also include Brian Michael Bendis’s first published work for DC Comics (see "Bendis in 'Action Comics' #1000?").
Superman writer Peter J. Tomasi and artist Pat Gleason provide a 15-page story, as does Action Comics writer and artist Dan Jurgens. Bendis is providing a 10-page Superman story, which features art by Jim Lee. Marv Wolfman is scripting a story for unpublished work by comics great Curt Swan. Additional creative teams contributing to the landmark issue include Richard Donner and Geoff Johns with Olivier Coipel; Brad Meltzer with John Cassaday and Laura Martin; Louise Simonson with Jerry Ordway; Tom King with Clay Mann and Jordie Bellaire; and Scott Snyder with Tim Sale.
DC will also run a series of Superman themed variant covers throughout April to celebrate Action Comics #1000. The publisher is also releasing a companion hardcover commemorating the milestone achievement of DC’s longest running continually published series.
