The setting and mechanics of the award-winning card game Mystic Vale are expanding in the new card-crafting game Edge of Darkness. Alderac Entertainment Group is funding the game via Kickstarter, which has already surpassed its $50,000 goal in the first 24 hours.[Editor's note: on 2/23 An Alderac Representative told ICv2 that there is no planned trade release for the game at this time. See Kick It Here option below for retail purchase during the Kickstarter.]

Designed by John D. Clair, Edge of Darkness takes place in the same world as Mystic Vale. Players take the role of guild masters in the city of Aegis, struggling to combat the encroaching Blight. Players must decide if they will defend the city from within the walls, fight the corruption seeping into Capital Hall, or gather heroes and strike out against the Blight on its own turf. The game includes a double-sided evolution of the card crafting system, as well as an innovative shared deckbuilding mechanic. There are variable location boards which make each game unique and the randomized Threat Tower constantly changes the source of the Blight.

Alderac is offering brick & mortar retail game stores a chance to participate in the Kickstarter through it’s “Kick It Here” program. Retailers can email Alderac their information and the company will provide details. Participating retailers agree not to sell Edge of Darkness product received through the Kickstarter on the internet.

The game is for 2 – 4 players, and plays in 90 -120 minutes. MSRP was not announced. Backer fulfillment is planned for June 2019.
