The fourth entry in the rebooted Star Trek film franchise is going where no one has gone before with a woman at the helm. S.J. Clarkson has been tapped to direct, according to Variety.  Paramount Pictures hasn’t commented on the hiring, but Clarkson would be the first woman to steer a silver screen outing for the Starship Enterprise.  She’s best known for her television work, which includes episodes of Marvel’s Jessica Jones, Marvel’s The Defenders, Dexter, and Orange Is the New Black.

Star Trek 4 reportedly stars Chris Hemsworth, who played a small but memorable role as James T. Kirk’s father in the first film.  Chris Pine is set to return as James Kirk, and Zachary Quinto will be back as Spock.  Details on the plot are thin, but sources indicate there will be some sort of time travel shenanigans in which Pine’s James Kirk encounters Hemsworth’s George Kirk.

Naturally, Clarkson’s entry in the franchise should not be confused with the film that J.J. Abrams is reportedly developing with Quentin Tarantino (see "Tarantino 'Star Trek' Will Be R-Rated").
