IDW Publishing has unveiled the creative team behind the new Big Hero 6 series.  Hannah Blumenreich (Spidey Zine) will be writing with illustrator Nicoletta Baldari (Star Wars: Forces of Destiny).  Gurihiru (Gwenpool) and Sophie Campbell (Jem and the Holograms, TMNT) will cover the series, which kicks off in July.  Plot details are thin, but readers can expect comic book hijinks and heroics from their favorite characters, including Hiro, Wasabi, Fred, Go Go, Honey Lemon, and the world’s most huggable robot, Baymax.

Disney’s Big Hero 6 is loosely based on characters created for Marvel Comics by Steven T. Seagle and Duncan Rouleau.  Rather than publishing through Marvel, Disney has opted to release much of their younger readers-friendly fare through IDW Publishing (see "'Big Hero 6' Coming Back to Comics").  IDW also prints all-ages comics set in the Star Wars universe (see "IDW to Produce Star Wars Kids Comics").

The Big Hero 6 animated film opened in 2014 to universal acclaim and went on to win the Oscar for best animated feature.  A new animated series will begin airing on the Disney Channel on June 9.  Even though the series doesn’t debut for several more weeks, Disney is already banking on its success with a second season order (see "'Big Hero 6' Renewed Before Series Debut").
