Dark Horse Comics will give Princess Jasmine a new pet in an original graphic novel for younger readers. Disney Princess: Jasmine’s New Pet is by Pashmina creator Nidhi Chanani.  The 48-page volume will be on sale October 10 for an MSRP of $7.99.

In Jasmine’s New Pet, Rajah, the princess’s new tiger cub, finds the rules of the palace difficult to follow.  If Jasmine can’t get Rajah to behave, her father will send him away, so the two must learn to follow the rules together in the all-ages story.

The story is inspired by Disney’s animated feature Aladdin.  The studio is currently working on a live-action adaptation in the vein of Beauty and the Beast. The movie is set to bow on December 20, 2019 (see “Best in Shows--Q4 2019”).

Chanani is a rising star in the kids comics world. Pashmina, which was released by First Second in 2017, tells the story on an Indian-American girl who learns about her mother’s homeland through a magical shawl.  The graphic novel was named a best of 2017 by Amazon (see “Amazon's Best Graphic Novels - 2017”) and listed among YALSA’s top ten graphic novels for teens in 2018 (see “YALSA Releases 2018 Top Ten Graphic Novels for Teens List”).
