In addition to remastering From Hell, Campbell has also added color to the Master Edition. "The most dramatic change is the color, of course," says Campbell. "I prefer the term ‘colorizing’ to ‘coloring’ since I’m not simply painting within the black lines, but reconceiving every panel to suit a full-color world. But I’ve also gone through and fixed small errors and minor flaws that have haunted me for decades. Ultimately the result is my equivalent of a ‘director’s cut’ of From Hell."
From Hell was originally serialized between 1989 and 1998 and collected in 1999. The work about the Victorian-era Jack the Ripper murders won several Eisner Awards and the Prix de la Critique at Angouleme. It was loosely adapted into a 2001 film starring Johnny Depp, Heather Graham, and Ian Holm (see "'From Hell' Wins Box Office").
