GameStop will begin testing periodical comics in 40 of its stores, according to CNBC. The test will concentrate on titles from Marvel and DC, according to the report, although Saga from Image Comics and Rick and Morty from Oni Press are also in the test, according to Bleeding Cool. If the test is successful, comics could be rolled out to additional stores.
GameStop continues to tweak its collectibles category, which is important to its repositioning as it tries to diversify away from packaged video games, which are shrinking as delivery migrates online. Collectible sales were up 24.4% last quarter, as same store sales declined 2.6% in the U.S. (see "GameStop ‘Rightsizing’ Games, Merch Space in Quarter with Sales Miss"). GameStop is the largest retailer of Funko POP! Vinyl figures in the U.S. (see "Who’s the Largest Retailer of POP! Vinyl Figures?").
