Jared Leto will star in Sony’s Spider-Man spinoff Morbius, Variety is reporting.

Sony has tapped Daniel Espinosa (Life, Safe House) to direct.  The script is penned by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama (Netflix’s Lost in Space, Power Rangers) who were credited back in November when Sony began seriously developing the project (see "'Spider-Man' Spin-Off, 'Wonder Woman 2' Moved, 'The Colossal,' More").  Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are producing the picture, along with Lucas Foster.

Morbius was introduced in Amazing Spider-Man #101 in 1971, created by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane. Dr. Michael Morbius is a scientist who suffered from a rare blood disease, and his "cure" resulted in the thirst for blood, fangs, and super strength.  The character had his own series Morbius, the Living Vampire in the 1990s.
