Brian Fies (Mom’s Cancer, Whatever happened to the World of Tomorrow?) offers a firsthand account of the devastating Northern California wildfires that raged in October 2017, killing 44 people and destroying more than 6,200 homes. Fies relays his personal experiences – losing his house and most of his possessions. Fies posted his experiences online in a webcomic a few days later and began including environmental data and the stories from his neighbors. The webcomic went viral. Now he has expanded it into a full-length hardcover graphic memoir. Release is planned for March 5. MSRP is $24.99.
Nobody’s Fool, The Live and Times of Schlitzie the Pinhead by Bill Griffith (Zippy) follow the life of sideshow performer Schlitzie (1901 – 1971), from Coney Island to small-town carnivals and his appearance it eh cult classic Freaks. Griffith exhaustively researched Schlitzie’s life, and Nobody’s Fool will offer new details on his life and personality. The 256-page hardcover will release on March 19. MSRP is $24.99. Walt Whitman’s unpublished Live Oak, With Moss poetry collection, which explores the theme of same-sex love, is generally unknown to the public. Now Brian Selznick (The Invention of Hugo Cabret, Wonderstruck) and Whitman scholar Karen Karbiener interpret and illustrate this collection and share it with the world. The 192-page hardcover has an MSRP of $29.99. Release is scheduled for April 9. Jack Gantos (Rotten Ralph, Dead End in Norvelt) wrote A Suicide Bomber Sits in the Library for the Amnesty International anthology Here I Stand. Now Dave McKean (Sandman, Coraline) has illustrated the story with his unique mixed-media style and Abrams ComicArts will release it to a new audience. When a boy enters a library wearing an explosive vest under his new red jacket, he has only his mission on his mind. But as he watches the patrons reading, something he cannot do, e begins to question what he is doing there. The 96-page hardcover will release on may 14. MSRP is $18.99.
