The issue includes a new Swamp Thing story, “Protector of the Green,” by writer Brian Azzarello (Batman: Damned) and artist Greg Capullo (Dark Nights: Metal). The 12-page story about a group of trick-or-treaters who cross paths with a witch and Swamp Thing appears alongside House of Secrets #92 (1971), Swamp Thing’s first appearance by co-creators Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, “Night of the Reaper” from Batman #237, and material from DC Infinite Halloween Special (2007 and 2008) and The Brave and the Bold (2010).
Swamp Thing Halloween Horror Special is part of DC’s expansion into the nation’s largest retailer (see "Walmart to Carry Exclusive DC Comics in 3,000 Stores”). Previous 100-Page Giants have centered on Superman, Justice League, Batman, and Teen Titans.
A live action take on the character is in the works at DC Universe. The Swamp Thing series is being directed by Len Wiseman and stars Jennifer Beals, Crystal Reed, Maria Sten, and Derek Mears (see “'Runaways' Trailer, 'Discovery' Poster, 'Swamp Thing' Casting, Netflix Orders Two Comics Series, Alan Tudyk Is a 'Resident Alien'”).
